🔥 From Politics to True Crime: Inside India's Booming Podcast Ecosystem

Amazon Music India, in collaboration with IVM Podcasts, hosted 'India Pod Day' in Mumbai, where 25 years of digital transformation were celebrated with the deep cultural connection of podcasting.
The sessions held at the event ranged from dial-up-era to modern-day true crime stories, featuring powerful voices such as Cyrus Broacha and Kumar Varun. The event, held on January 24th, 2025, drew huge attention as it was also attended by political figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Key Points:
The event marked 25 years of digital progress in India, ranging from early internet connections to modern technology like 4G.
Giant names in the industry, including Amazon Music India and IVM Podcasts, came together to bring to life this rising podcast influence.
Famous politicians like Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal have begun embracing podcasting as an easy way of communicating.
The event showcased a few unique features of the podcasting preferences of Indians in the form of spirituality-themed podcasts and India-based true crime episodes.
Myanmar was present at the event. East Timor also approached India with possible intentions for cooperation.
This is a critical milestone in India's digital transformation, which showcases how podcasting has moved from a simple medium of audio to a powerful tool for cultural expression and political discourse. The involvement of prominent platforms and industry leaders underlines the rising economic and cultural importance of podcasting in India, which underlines its potential for global growth.
The Big Picture:
What this development actually means for podcasters and producers is unprecedented opportunity in the India market.
On the other hand, big players like Amazon Music are also investing more, which in turn may mean better monetization possibilities and professional growth.
The diverse interests of the content represented at the event showcased a number of niches for the content creators to work on-from technology and history to personal growth. In other words, the pervasive political engagement within the industry and international interest are signs that podcasting is turning into a mainstream medium with great potential to influence public discourse and foster cultural exchange.

🎙️IAB Research Shows Strong Consumer Support for Value-Exchange Digital Advertising

A recent study by the Interactive Advertising Bureau revealed that 80% of higher-income consumers prefer ad-supported free internet access. That reflects a very real shift in consumer behavior, one of the more striking evolutions in consumer attitudes around personal data and the nature of the relationship people want to have with digital services. The study, "Striking the Balance: The Consumer Perspective on Privacy, Preference, and Personalization," was conducted via IAB's Insights Engine in collaboration with Talk Shoppe. The findings are fueled by interesting quotes from IAB CEO David Cohen that are enlightening on the relationship between personalization and privacy in digital advertising.
The Key points:
A full 82% of consumers say that personalized ads help them find what they're looking for more quickly
Higher-income consumers are more accepting of sharing their data and trusting responsible data use
Close to 80% of consumers feel more positive about a company or brand when offered personalized advertising
A mere 2% of consumers are concerned that companies use their data to create personalized advertising without actively opting-in.
Although privacy awareness is on the rise, fully 60% of Americans still find existing ways of managing their privacy too complicated.
It upends the conventional wisdom about how Americans think about advertising and data sharing in a way that fundamentally changes our understanding of this subject. Contrary to the idea that people are opposed to digital advertising, it finds that they embrace it as long as it offers something valuable-here, free access to content and services. That finding has particular significance as legislators take up national privacy laws and companies struggle to balance personalization with privacy.
The Big Picture:
This research therefore presents great opportunities for podcasters, producers, and the wider industry. Confidently, podcasters can now develop models supported by ads, knowing that listeners likely prefer this to paid subscriptions because of the value of free access to content and services. The whole industry benefits from knowing that successful advertising is a question of making it meaningful and valuable to the audience.
