🎙️Crooked Media’s “Killing Justice” Limited Series Explores the Mysterious Death of an Indian Judge and its Connection to the Prime Minister

WHAT:  Killing Justice investigates how one man’s death has become a lodestone for increasingly polarized politics in India. From Crooked Media and The Branch.

When a judge in India dies of a heart attack, his passing barely makes the news. But when his niece approaches a journalist two years later, she shares a different story: that the circumstances around Judge Brijgopal Loya’s death have made his family doubt the official story.

Following the reporting and legal fallout that arise from this tip, host Ravi Gupta examines the conflicting evidence and grapples with the broader implications a single night in the city of Nagpur has on the world’s largest democracy.

Releasing against the backdrop of India’s election, Killing Justice invites listeners into the shadowy world of India’s political power players, including Amit Shah, a longtime operative who helped catapult Modi to political dominance, who is at the center of the Judge Brijgopal Loya case. Ravi’s findings show how the justice system works for India’s political elite, creating a market where true justice is eluded and innocence can be bought and sold.

WHO: Host Ravi Gupta is a journalist, founder, former Obama staffer and co-host of the Majority 54 podcast. Ravi’s new series, produced by Crooked Media and Ravi’s nonprofit digital media company The Branch, finds him digging into his own family history and tracing down sources in India to understand just how delicate its democracy has become in the face of the growing Hindu nationalism movement.

Ravi is the Founder and CEO of The Branch, a non-profit media company that fights against polarization and misinformation. Prior to The Branch, Ravi co-founded Arena and led a team that helped elect dozens of candidates and launched the largest campaign staffer training academy in the history of the Democratic Party. He also founded RePublic Schools, a network of charter schools in the South, including the first and only two charter schools in Tennessee to rank in the top 5% of all public schools for growth and absolute performance. Ravi held several roles on Barack Obama’s first campaign and first term, including as assistant to David Axelrod and Susan Rice.

Ravi also serves as the Founder and CEO of Squadra Health, a longevity medicine and wellness company, and as co-host of Majority 54, a political podcast about talking to friends and family with different political beliefs.
